A Warming Herbal Massage Oil of St John's Wort, Cayenne & Wintergreen
Nerve Oil is a warming herbal massage oil for the lower back, hips and legs, applied two to three times a day. St John's wort, cayenne and comfrey oils are blended with wintergreen, frankincense, sandalwood, lavender and calendula in a base of sweet almond and extra virgin olive oils.
The Herbs
Nerve Oil brings together three groups of herbs and oils traditionally used for nerve and muscle comfort. Warming oils encourage healthy circulation. Restorative oils support the body's natural tissue recovery. Calming essential oils ease muscular tension. Together they make an oil for the lower back, hips and legs, massaged in every day.
To Warm and Circulate
Cayenne Oil (Capsicum annuum): A warming oil traditionally used to stimulate circulation and as a topical counter-irritant, helping to ease localised nerve irritation.
Wintergreen Essential Oil (Gaultheria procumbens): Traditionally applied for a comforting warmth that eases localised stiffness and comforts sensitive nerve pathways.
Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia carterii): Traditionally used to support healthy local circulation and comfort areas of muscular tension.
To Restore
St John's Wort Oil (Hypericum perforatum): Traditionally relied upon to comfort localised tissue inflammation, ease radiating nerve sensitivity and soothe deep physical discomfort.
Comfrey Oil (Symphytum officinale): Long valued by herbalists to support the natural repair of overworked muscles, joints and connective tissues.
Calendula Oil (Calendula officinalis): Traditionally applied to soothe the skin and support its natural repair.
To Relax
Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia): Traditionally used to ease localised muscular tension and encourage relaxation.
Sandalwood Essential Oil (Santalum album): Traditionally used to encourage muscular relaxation and ease physical tension, with a warm, grounding aroma.
Why a Massage Oil?
Unlike many topical gels, a herbal massage oil combines the benefits of massage with whole-plant herbs that stay in contact with the skin. Blended into sweet almond and extra virgin olive oils, it can be massaged comfortably into the areas that need it most.

External Use Only: Nerve Oil is formulated exclusively for topical application. Do not ingest or apply to the eyes, mucous membranes, broken skin or highly sensitive areas.
Wash Hands After Use: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water immediately after application to avoid accidentally transferring the warming Cayenne extract to the eyes or other sensitive areas.

A Daily Movement Ritual
Stretch Gently: Five to ten minutes a day of gentle stretches, such as child's pose or drawing the knees towards the chest.
Move Every Hour: Stand, stretch or walk for a few minutes each hour on long sitting days.
Warm First: A warm bath or compress before applying the oil.
Rest in Good Alignment: A pillow under the knees when lying on the back, or between them when lying on the side.
Warm a little between your palms and massage it in slowly, ideally after a bath or shower when the skin is warm. It is a rich oil and a small amount covers a large area.
The colour comes from St John’s Wort. The flowers release a deep red pigment slowly into oil over several weeks of infusion, and it is the traditional sign of a properly made St John’s Wort oil.
No. St John’s Wort can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, so apply it in the evening and keep treated skin covered or out of direct sun.
Cayenne and wintergreen are both counter-irritants, which is where the warmth comes from. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards and keep the oil away from your eyes, nose and mouth — capsaicin transfers easily from the fingers and stings badly. Do not cover the area with a hot compress or a tight dressing, and keep it off broken or cracked skin
At three to four drops twice daily, around three months. Once opened, use within twelve months — unrefined oils turn faster than refined ones, which is what the vitamin E is slowing down.
Our Nerve Oil has been expertly formulated by our Medical Herbalists to provide comforting botanical support for sensitive nerve pathways, muscular tension and healthy peripheral circulation. It is commonly applied to areas experiencing radiating lower back and leg discomfort, localized nerve sensitivity, tingling, stiffness and physical tension as part of a daily self-care routine.
Apply approximately one pipette of oil to the affected area—such as the lower back, hips, buttocks, thighs, calves or feet—two to three times daily. Warm the oil between your palms before gently massaging it into the skin. For more intensive support, apply in the morning, late afternoon and again before bedtime. Always wash your hands thoroughly after application.
Many customers choose Nerve Oil as part of their self-care routine during episodes of sciatica because it is formulated to support areas commonly affected, including the lower back, buttocks, legs and feet. Sciatica can have a variety of underlying causes, so if your symptoms are severe, persistent or worsening, we recommend seeking advice from your GP or booking a consultation with one of our Medical Herbalists so we can advise on the most appropriate herbal support for your individual circumstances.
Many people notice a comforting warming sensation shortly after application due to the presence of Cayenne and Wintergreen, botanicals traditionally used as topical counter-irritants. As with many traditional herbal preparations, consistent application over two to three weeks allows the botanicals to provide the greatest level of support as part of your daily recovery routine.
Nerve Oil has been specifically formulated to support sensitive nerve pathways, radiating lower back and leg discomfort, localized tingling and muscular tension. Mahanarayan Oil is based on traditional Ayurvedic principles and is designed to support joint mobility and overall musculoskeletal comfort, while our Joint & Muscle Balm has been formulated for everyday muscular recovery and localized stiffness.
No. Due to the carefully selected essential oils and warming botanicals included in the formulation, Nerve Oil is not suitable for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
