Suitable for normal, dry, oily & combination (oily-dry) skin
Our cooling Headease Balm is made with a powerful blend of plants that are scientifically proven to provide effective relief from tension and discomfort associated with headaches and migraines. Peppermint and menthol crystals are deeply cooling. They can help to soothe congestion and ease tension and inflammation in the forehead. Wood betony, lavender and chamomile bring additional circulation-boosting, anti-inflammatory, and uplifting properties. Massage it onto your temples and forehead and on the back of your neck when suffering from a headache, and let nature do the rest!
Peppermint and menthol crystals
Menthol is the main active constituent in peppermint, which has a long tradition of being used to relieve headaches. Both peppermint as a whole and menthol create a cooling sensation when applied on the skin. There is a well-established body of scientific evidence demonstrating that applying menthol or peppermint to the forehead and temples can relieve headaches and migraines. In addition to its locally cooling effect, peppermint also increases blood flow of capillaries in the forehead. It induces muscle relaxation and mental relaxation, supporting improvements in headache intensity. Peppermint is also effective in reducing nausea, muscle tension and nasal congestion (so it is excellent for sinus headaches).
Dried German chamomile flowers and Roman chamomile essential oil
Both German and Roman Chamomile enhance mood, alleviate inflammation and ease spasms. They help address stress and tension, which are common triggers of headaches. They are mild sedatives, meaning that they gently reduce restlessness and anxiety, and help ease an overactive mind. They are well absorbed into the skin, and studies suggest that applying chamomile externally to the forehead and temples can help relieve tension in migraines.
Wood betony
Wood betony is a nerve tonic, meaning it supports the nervous system and can help relieve tension. It enhances circulation to the head and improves memory and concentration. It has strong evidence of traditional use dating back centuries to address migraines, headaches and nerve discomfort.
Lavender essential oil
Lavender lifts the spirits and relieves tension and its use to remedy stress-related headaches and migraines is well documented. Its uplifting and soothing scent creates a sense of calm and relaxation.
Extra virgin olive oil
We use extra virgin olive oil as the base oil for this balm as it is moisturising, hypoallergenic, antiinfective and anti-inflammatory. It is a very stable oil that maintains its healing properties when gently infused like in this recipe. It is also rich in a host of potent natural antioxidants – which not only protect the skin from the effects of sun radiation, pollution and other stressors, but also help preserve the balm for longer. Containing plenty of vitamin A, D, E and K, it is nourishing, soothing and protective to the skin.
Candelilla wax
We use candelilla wax to thicken the balm into just the right consistency and texture for massaging onto the forehead and temples. Candellila wax is very similar to beeswax. We avoid using beeswax in order to offer fully plant-based balms. It is derived from the candelilla plant, which grows in the Chihuahuan desert in Mexico, providing livelihoods to local smallholder producers (“candelilleros”) who sustainably harvest the plant. Candelilla wax is soothing to the skin, does not block pores (making it safe for oily skin) and is naturally rich in beneficial vitamin A. The plant leaf is so full of wax that you can light it like a candle!
This product contains extra virgin olive oil, candelilla wax, menthol, peppermint, chamomile, wood betony, Roman chamomile essential oil and lavender essential oil.

Possible red flags to watch out for: While common, headaches can in some cases signal more complex underlying issues. While most are benign and manageable, it's crucial to stay informed about certain warning signs that could potentially indicate a more severe condition. It’s crucial to seek medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional if your headache:
-
Feels notably different from previous ones or shows a progressive worsening in either frequency or severity.
-
Intensifies with actions like coughing, sneezing, bending over, or abrupt movements, hinting at possible increased intracranial pressure.
-
Is accompanied by other neurological symptoms, such as changes in sensation or vision, sudden weakness, loss of coordination, seizures, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, or alterations in consciousness levels like drowsiness or confusion.
-
Presents systemic symptoms like unexplained weight loss, fever, red eyes with halos seen around lights, or any unusual changes in blood pressure and pulse.
-
Begins after age 50, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as a stiff neck, jaw pain when chewing, or temple tenderness.
Additionally, if you have any medical history of conditions like cancer, immunodeficiency disorders, or are on immunosuppressant medication, it's essential to be extra observant and discuss any headache patterns with your healthcare provider.
