Our Allergy Support Tincture contains soothing, anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory herbs that ease the symptoms of hypersensitivity experienced in hay fever or allergic rhinitis. It includes eyebright, elderflower, chamomile, baikal skullcap, plantain, peppermint and yarrow. It helps clear excessive catarrh and soothes inflammation and irritation in the sinuses, the eyes, and along the respiratory tract — without any of the side effects of antihistamine drugs.
Eyebright
Eyebright has been used for millennia to ease watery, itchy and sensitive eyes – as suggested by its common name, it has a special affinity for the eyes. Its drying (astringent), decongestant (anti-catarrhal) and soothing (anti-inflammatory) nature makes it a fabulous remedy for troubles with the upper respiratory tract and the eyes – including sinusitis, conjunctivitis or pharyngitis. It also helps to reduce sneezing, runny noses and inflamed, sore throats. It soothes and restores the mucous membranes lining the respiratory tract.
Elderflower
The beautifully fragrant, creamy-white flowers of the elder tree help to relax, soothe and decongest the airways. They are also antimicrobial, making them particularly useful for infections, irritation and inflammation in the respiratory tract or digestive system. They are a great remedy for teary eyes and runny noses. Elderflower also supports the body to ease fevers and soothe rashes in eruptive infections.
Chamomile
The golden yellow flowerheads of German chamomile are calming and ease muscle spasms and contraction – they help relax the bronchial tubes and reduce tension and tightness in the chest as may be experienced with asthma or coughs. As it has natural antimicrobial properties, chamomile also helps support the body to resolve infections. It is a mild sedative, meaning that it gently reduces restlessness and tension, thereby promoting a restful sleep, which in turn supports recovery.
Baikal skullcap
One of our favourite herbal defenders, Baikal skullcap is an antihistamine, making it excellent for easing symptoms associated with various allergies, including hayfever, rhinitis, asthma, eczema or urticaria. It modulates immune system function and supports the body to reduce hypersensitivity reactions. It is great at keeping infections and allergic reactions at bay, and at enhancing our resistance to illness. It reduces inflammation of the sinuses, bronchi and air passages and dilates the bronchi to help clear allergens and debris. This herbal root helps clear heat and modulate inflammation in the body, and effectively supports the body to combat acute and chronic infections – particularly in the respiratory system. A great circulation booster, Baikal skullcap supports natural detoxification processes and keeps the system free of congestion.
Plantain
No prescription for easing the symptoms associated with allergies would be complete without the wonderful, yet humble plantain. Growing by the side of paths and fields, this herb has remarkable healing qualities. It is excellent at soothing inflammation and irritation of the respiratory tract, and is particularly helpful to relieve irritable dry coughs. That is in great part because of its richness in a moistening compound called mucilage, which is deeply soothing and healing to the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and throat. Plantain leaves help to open up and relax the airways to promote deep and effortless breathing. They are also a wonderful remedy for bites and stings.
Peppermint
Peppermint is wonderfully refreshing and vivifying. It is used to relax, open up and decongest the respiratory tract, modulate inflammation and support the body to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms.
Yarrow
Yarrow contains essential oils that aid in clearing the respiratory tract from any allergens and debris, as well as quercetin, which reduces histamine levels, relieving irritation and inflammation of the eyes and airways. It also promotes a healthy immune response and contains a range of vitamins and minerals, making it deeply nourishing.
This product contains eyebright, elderflower, chamomile, Baikal skullcap, plantain, peppermint, yarrow, purified water and ethyl alcohol.
Our Tinctures contain alcohol. Using alcohol enables us to effectively extract a wide range of constituents from plants. It also means that tinctures keep well - alcohol prevents the growth of bacteria and inhibits enzyme activity. Tinctures are easy to take and to carry around with you as you only need small amounts (generally of 2-3 teaspoons per day).
If you cannot or would not like to take alcohol in your medicine, please consider our herbal supplements or herbal teas within the same range and/or consult one of our medical herbalists so that they can devise a bespoke prescription for you. Please feel free to email us on info@zenmaitri.com if you have any questions.
