Our Nursing Tea is a gentle herbal blend that promotes breast milk production. It's rich in a range of micronutrients to support health and vitality for mum and baby, promotes relaxation, and helps to strengthen the uterine and pelvic muscles - through the addition of raspberry leaf - to aid your recovery after childbirth.
Raspberry leaf
Raspberry leaf is a powerful astringent with specific affinity for the female reproductive system. It gently tones and strengthens the uterine and pelvic muscles, helping restore the elasticity of the womb and uterine ligaments and supporting recovery from childbirth. Raspberry leaf has a powerful vulnerary action, meaning that it can help heal wounds internally and externally. It is also rich in minerals (including iron, calcium and magnesium), vitamins (including vitamins A and C) and antioxidants, as well as having anti-inflammatory properties. It is also effective at promoting milk production — and its nutritive qualities help ensure that the milk will be optimally nourishing for the baby.
Nettle leaf
Nettle leaves are highly nutritious – they are rich in vitamins A and C and minerals, particularly iron, calcium, silica, magnesium and potassium. All of these nutrients are essential for the maintenance of vibrant health and vitality. Nettle also protects the gut lining from irritation and infection, stimulates liver and kidney function, relieves fluid retention and enhances the elimination of toxins via the urine. This makes it effective at both gently cleansing and nourishing the body, bringing vitality to mum and baby. It also has an amazing ability to adjust breast milk production, increasing or reducing the flow as required. Nettle brings nutrition, balanced energy and well-rounded support to the body’s systems for both mum and baby.
Fennel
This aromatic, uplifting herb soothes and aids digestion and enhances nutrient absorption. Its antispasmodic action eases mild cramps, spasms and colics, and is also very efficient at stimulating lactation in nursing mothers.
Fenugreek
One of the most renowned herbs for improving the production of breastmilk, fenugreek is nutritious and supports nutrient absorption which is so helpful after the strain and rigours of pregnancy and childbirth. Its anti-inflammatory action provides a soothing and protective coating for the digestive tract and lifts fatigue.
Oatstraw
Nutritive, relaxing and strengthening to the nervous system, oat straw can help to relieve tension and irritability.. A mild sedative, oat straw also provides the nerves with essential nutrients, and feels like a warming herbal hug! It contains silica and other minerals that are essential to vibrant health and vitality — and to the production of deeply nourishing breast milk. Oat straw also contains mucilage, which is soothing and healing to the digestive tract.
Chamomile
The golden yellow flowerheads of German chamomile modulate inflammation, support the natural healing process, and soothe tension. They can be used internally and externally to relieve mastitis and sore nipples. In addition to its delightfully bright aroma, chamomile is a mild nervous system sedative, which means that it gently reduces restlessness, irritability and tension.
Marshmallow leaf
Marshmallow leaf is rich in a moistening substance called mucilage, which makes it incredibly soothing and very effective to cool irritation and inflammation. It is ideal to nourish and protect mucous membranes along the digestive, respiratory or urinary systems. It is a very soothing diuretic, so it helps the body in dealing with infections, irritation or inflammation in the bladder and urinary tract. Like many of the other herbs in this formula, it is effective at stimulating the flow of breast milk.
Ginger root
A deliciously warming digestive stimulant, ginger enhances the secretion of digestive enzymes and addresses indigestion. In addition, studies suggest that it can improve breast milk production in the days after childbirth without notable side effects. It is also excellent to ease nausea and bloating. Ginger is a great circulatory tonic, which improves oxygenation of the tissues, warms up cold hands and feet and enhances vitality and clarity of mind.
Lemongrass whole
We have added a small amount of lemongrass to this blend for its uplifting action and refreshing flavour, and because of its traditional use to increase the production and flow of breast milk in nursing mothers.
This product contains raspberry leaf, nettle leaf, fennel, fenugreek, chamomile, oat straw, marshmallow leaf, ginger and lemongrass.

We recommend drinking 2 cups of this tea per day and drinking it anytime during the day to promote healthy breast milk flow.

To augment the effectiveness of our Nursing Tea:
-
Stay hydrated: Breastfeeding can be dehydrating. Ensure you're drinking at least 2-3 litres of water a day to support milk production and maintain hydration levels.
-
Eat lactation-boosting foods: Foods like oats, fenugreek, barley, and sesame seeds can potentially increase milk supply. Additionally, consuming a balanced diet with whole grains, healthy fats, and lots of fruits and vegetables ensures you're getting the necessary nutrients to pass onto your baby and maintain your energy levels. Avoid spicy foods.
-
Limit caffeine and alcohol: Both can be transferred to the baby through breast milk. While an occasional cup of coffee or glass of wine is generally considered safe, moderation is key, and it's essential to consult with your healthcare provider.
-
Positioning and latch: Ensure your baby has a good latch, and you're using various nursing positions to reduce the risk of sore nipples and ensure the baby is emptying the breasts effectively.
-
Wear comfortable clothing: Invest in supportive nursing bras and tops, making sure they're not too tight, which can lead to blocked milk ducts or other issues.
-
Get ample rest: Sleep when the baby sleeps to recover your energy.
-
Practise gentle exercises, like postnatal yoga, to help with recovery and relaxation.
-
Avoid stress: High-stress levels can impact milk production. Engage in calming activities like gentle walks, reading or meditating to reduce stress. Consider joining a new mothers' group for community support.
-
Mind your medications: Always consult a healthcare practitioner before taking any medication, as some can affect your breast milk and its transfer to the baby.
-
Listen to your body: If you're feeling overly fatigued, experiencing pain, or sensing that something's not right, seek advice and support.
-
Consult a lactation / breastfeeding specialist, a medical herbalist or another healthcare practitioner if you experience pain or discomfort associated with breastfeeding.
