Have you ever felt like life has been actively designed to cause you stress and anxiety? There seems to be no time at all to find the moments of calm we need to take a breath and unwind.

Recent research from the Mental Health Foundation suggests that it's a growing problem. According to their findings, almost three-quarters of UK adults had been so stressed at one point or another in the previous year that they felt 'overwhelmed or unable to cope'.

That's not good at all. It looks like we're getting some fundamental things wrong. In how we prioritise mental health and in the ways we are taught to handle stressful situations.

This is so worrying because we know that stress can be as dangerous in the long term as it is paralysing in the moment.

Some of its effects are familiar to all of us: trouble sleeping, anxiety and mental health complications. Others are less obvious in the short term but just as serious: reduced nervous system function, and long term threats of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes.

We're excited to announce that we are launching a practical six-week course with our resident meditation teacher Laurent Roure. The course, 'How to Find Calm & Manage Stress' will leave you with a range of skills and techniques to do exactly that.

Over the course of six 75-minutes sessions, Laurent will guide you through exercises that combine breathwork, meditation and mindfulness to give you greater control over mind, body and breath.

Laurent created this course to equip students with the skills they need to ease agitated minds and foster a sense of inner calm.

This six-week course is designed for anyone looking to add meditation and breathwork to their coping tools in times of stress and anxiety. It's suitable for people with existing diagnosis of mild to moderate anxiety and for anyone who could benefit from learning simple techniques to support mental and physical wellbeing.


The Details

The course runs for six weeks, with one 75-minute class each week. Each week the group will focus on a different theme, building up skills and techniques to find calm and fortify the mind.

Date: The course starts on Thursday, October 10th.

Topics that will be covered in the course include:

  • Using breathwork to alter the functioning of our nervous system.
  • Meditation and mindfulness to reduce the fluctuations and agitations of the mind.
  • Techniques focused on being present in the moment.
  • Deep relaxation techniques to aid calm and restfulness.

At the end of the course, each student will receive a document outlining everything that has been covered, ensuring you leave with everything you need to continue your practice in your own time.

Course Price: £120 per person. There are a maximum of eight spaces available.

About Laurent Roure

Laurent Roure is an accredited yoga and meditation teacher, with a specialisation in yoga therapy for anxiety and stress.

Through years of self-practice, teaching, study, classes, workshops, courses, teacher training and yoga retreats, Laurent has built a reputation as a leading figure in the practice of meditation and breathwork.

Laurent encourages his students to listen to their bodies’ needs and subsequently become more in touch with themselves, their strengths, weaknesses, their breathing and their minds.

Laurent teaches with a warm, welcoming and open style and has worked with students of all ages and backgrounds.

Laurent works with Heather Mason at the Minded Institute, a specialist centre for yoga therapy for mental health. He also studies meditation with Alexander Filmer Lorch and pranayama and breathwork within the system of Swami Gitananda.

This course is not designed to diagnose any mental health issues, nor to replace help from mental health professionals or medication. Instead, it is intended to be a complementary addition to those steps, to fortify the mind against stress and anxiety.
